AnthroJobs of the Week, 8 December 2017

Avatar Terry Redding December 8, 2017 No Comments

An interesting opportunity came across the radar this week, worth having a look for the right candidate.

Crea Comunidades de Emprendedores Sociales, A.C. is a Mexican non-profit founded in 2008 that develops and implements unique and customized programs to empower and strengthen women entrepreneurs and businesswomen from socially and economically marginalized areas in Mexico. The group is looking for a Project Manager  in their Department of Program Evaluation. The Project Manager supports the Evaluation Director in her various responsibilities, mainly in the coordination of the follow up evaluation of social programs, fieldwork and distribution of reports to strategic partners.

This position is full-time, with an initial contract period of six months. The contract may be renewed and/or responsibilities increased depending on the performance of the candidate.

Qualifications include a BA in anthropology or related field (MA preferred),  with 1-3 years of work experience.  Also, fieldwork experience with quantitative and/or qualitative methods, experience in team management, and knowledge of Stata and Excel. It is essential to have an understanding of gender issues in Mexico. Applicants must be fluent in Spanish, with ability in English.

Application deadline in 3 January, 2018.

Here is a rare find: how many job announcements do you see that actually have “applied anthropology” in the description? Here is one:

Blue State Digital is looking for an inventive digital experience strategist “to help clients understand their audiences, define strategies, and develop user-focused approaches to their websites and digital platforms. While this role includes elements of user experience design, the responsibilities here emphasize research, applied anthropology, design thinking, and developing cross-channel digital solutions.”

The position seems to include a great deal of presentation time, and day-to-day responsibilities include conducting research using a wide array of methodologies, translate research and data findings into actionable tools and formats, and lead workshops and presentations around the newly discovered insights and recommendations.
